Hi Gerard,

Congratulations on finishing the Holly Buddy - it looks wonderful. And thanks for choosing to build it.

Can't wait for you to get your fuel and hear it running. I note you have an 8 x 4 prop on it - maybe think about a 9 x 4 to start with, although an 8 x 4 will be ok if you don't try for too many revs.

kind regards ... Ed

With a larger propeller 9x4 is best to running-in the new engine (lower revolution). The engine 2,5 ccm need a propeller from 7x4 for racing airplane and up to 10x6 for large slow airplane.

Hi Ed,

Thanks for your e.mail and all the input from technical informations to get this engine finished in the right way.
I feel the same as you and can n't hardly wait to hear and see it running.I will do all i can to obtain the right fuel for running
also this engine.
It was a very nice engine for me to built and a pleasure to spent so many hours on my hobbyroom under the ceiling to make all the parts which complete this little engine.

Many greetings from Gerard-The Netherlands-Europe.

Hi Jens Erik,

Thanks as well for your sympathic input/feetback to get this engine ready. The Propellor information was very welcome too, now i can do some improvement when it runs on the right dieselfuel to see what happens using some different sizes in propellors.
All the best for you and many thanks are comming from,

Gerard-The Netherlands-Europe.

Hallo Model Engine Friends,

In between i made a Steel Mounting Support to fix my Holly Buddy against.
So i can mount this complete unit on a table or workbench or at in a standard factory engine mount.
It's made from thick steel which was provided from my son Robert who was many times very helpfull in supporting me with all kinds of metal when needed during the built of my Holly Buddy 2,5 cc model diesel engine. He also made it possible for me to built all the home made model engines before.
I hope that you like the photos i made from this Mounting Support.

Many greetings from modelmotor-Gerard-The Netherlands-Europe.

Hallo Model Engine Friends,
However i had finished my Holly Buddy model engine i decided yesterday to update a few things.I gave my engine a driver plate made from aluminium and a plain nut which gives the engine a more "retro" look.I also did some balancing work at the Crankshaft by milling away 2 equal parts from the Crankweb as shown on the plans from Ed. I hope that this balancing from the Crankshaft which will prevent high vibrations at the engine.I made a few extra photos again to show you the result.
I hope that you like it.
many greetings from modelmotor-Gerard-The Netherlands-Europe.

Hallo Model Engine Friends
However not having the model diesel fuel yet here are a number of photos from made from my Holly Buddy 2,5 cc ready to run mounted on a small wooden shelf. This construction will be mounted on a small kind of workbench to let the engine run were it's made for of course.
I hope you like my idea of making this small construction as i did already for a couple of early made model engines.
It's to risky these days to keep this small construction with a running engine in my hand while doiing also the adjustments.

Many greetings from modelmotor-Gerard-The Netherlands-Europe.

Hallo Model engine friends,
Here i am again with just a few updates i made for my Holly Buddy engine.
The first engine starts were Ok and the engine ran with a nice sound and RPM's were enough and available.
The only problem was to run the engine more constantly for a longer time .
I found out that my fueltank construction was n't what it used to be ,so i made a change for an "old fashion" copper fuel tank with not so much volume.
I mounted it just behind the engine to keep the fuelline short only i will have to look after the level were the fuel comes out the tank.
I hope that the pictures are telling you the rest of the story.Instead of the standard venturi tube i made a new one from brass with some other dimensions and glued this into the fronthousing just like Ed instructed in his Holly Buddy model engine thread
The brass needle valve has a plastic cover because of the long cuts inside the needle housing look at my pictures the needle wih the clear plastic tube and a separate clear piece of plastic tube to show what's ment.
In between i also did some work at the backplate which did n't fit very well so now this is all OK at this moment.
Some other improvement will be done in the next few weeks it's unhappily cold overhere now the Autumn has started with llow temperatures and strong wind not ideal weather for running the engine.
I hope that you will like my engine update and probably some will follow.

many greetings from modelmotor-Gerard-The Netherlands-Europe.

Hallo Model Engine Friends,
This message will probably my last about the Holly Buddy 2,5 cc model diesel engine. This message contains the photos who were left after cleaning my camera from many pictures.
I hope that my Thread and Photos were of any interest for you when you decide to make a model diesel engine your own.The Holly Buddy 2,5 cc is a perfect engine design for your first home made model engine in my opinion.
This engine contains all the basic details and structures from a good working model engine which is in some way real easy to built as well.
The engine looks real good when it's finished so it brings back memories of the golden aera of model diesel engine production with a real eye wink to the British model diesel engines made during the fifties and sixties.
You can make a more difficult engine when you succeed in making this one i think.Mr.Ed Holly is of course very well skilled and will give you all the advice when small problems occure during the making of this Holly Buddy model engine.

many greetings from modelmotor-Gerard-The Netherlands-Europe.

Hallo Modelengine friends,
My Holly Buddy 2,5 cc was ready, but at the real running test it failed to run only short runs were possible.I mean by short runs just a high RPM run(s) from a couple of seconds.I have examined my engine and it seems a better idea to make another piston with a better way of lapping for a good fit into the liner.
I always made a new Conrod and Wristpin as parts into this engine and the Liner got a better contra Liner and a new Crankshaft with a full disk as well so most of the parts are renewed so this time it will run much more steadingly. The photo's i made are part of this short story. So they will acompagny my building explanation.

Here you can see my new work with my Holly Buddy 2,5 cc model diesel engine. The renewing/refurbishing from many internal engine parts.
