terracotta pots

Ok all great gurus

can you use terracotta pots for the inside of the furnace Im thinking of lineing it with fire brick anyway
as we can get new ones cheap

Im thinking of melting mainly alloys using BBQ bricks for fuel and charcol

will this get hot enough as Ive read so many differant views on this

any help would be great

The short answer is yes.

The question is, why, if you are going to line it with bricks?

Both my furnaces have steel casings, which allows for the welding on of fitments.

you read so many differant things it can get confusing I'll just use the pot and save the bricks for a smaller furnace

well Ive started the furnace the other day
got a terracotta pot about 200mm round tapered down to 100mm at the bottam
using a old milk urn for the out side of it put the blower hole in and filled with mortar the type they use in fire/pizza ovens packed it all down and kept taping the outside to get air bubbles out of it
it has been drying now for 7 days so I,ll start to build very small fires in it over the next few days

will post pics soon

also got about 40 old lawnmower heads for nothing so I can brake these up and see what they melt down like
