Our CNC machines at work are equipped with chip conveyors the that run continuously
to pull the chips out of the machine, then up a 45 degree incline to be dropped into
a hopper that's parked under the elevated end.

Today the man running the machine next to mine noticed that a ball of stringers had
gotten tangled up in the conveyor flights and was being pulled back in under the
conveyor on it's return path to the machining area.
He casually put on a glove, raised the safety cover on the end of the conveyor, still running, and
proceded to try to drag the ball of chips back out against the pressure.

I suggested that might not be his best option.
(OK, those may not have been my exact words, but I made my point!)

He got MAD and pointed out the fact that there was a 4" clearance between the bottom
side of that conveyor and the return chute.
I apologized, and said I had no idea there was that much room.
I'm sure he could have fit through there if that glove had caught. ::)

Funny part is this guy is almost 40 years old with 32 years experience.
What an accomplishment to be able to become that stupid in only 40 years!
The working skills of an experienced machinist.
I guess I'm still in the learning stages.

Sometimes I have a little trouble expressing my thoughts.
Perhaps this is one of them? ;)
