I'm interested in hearing what torque (in oz/inch) people have been successful in using to make their 4th axis cnc or electronic indexing heads.

If you've made one please post the torque rating of your stepper motor.

Thanks in advance!

Using a NMEA 23 with a 15 kg-cm holding torque. Running 24 volts with a Sherline controller. 1.75 to 1 timing belt reduction to a 40:1 Ellis dividing head to give 28000 steps for 360 degree rotation. This is to match the program steps in the Sherline so the display reads correctly for degrees and number of steps per revolution.
Here is a link to the motor I am using.

wow what a great price, no wonder its on back order. 15 Kg-cm equals about 208 oz-in torque. If I am not mistaken your stepper has multiple wiring options one of which is rated for 1A per phase @ 8.6V.

Back up a page and you will find 13 others in that series that are similar prices. That one is the only one on back order. l just gave that link because it is the one I am using. The setup I described has been in use for about 3 years with no problems.

sadly, I dont think they ship to Canada... at least their listings on ebay say no shipping to canada :(

guys in the US are lucky those are the very best prices I've seen outside of ordering directly from China. Good selection of stepper motors too

Well, I was able to find a 125 oz stepper motor locally for only $29 Canadian, so that's what I am going with for my rotary table.

I think that will be fine. Most of the photos I saw of rotary tables looked like they were around 269 OZ but one but the tiny NEMA23 that was close to NEMA17 in performance was fine once I increased the voltage from 19 to 48 volts. Apparently doubling the voltage almost doubles the torque.
