I’ve recently acquired a 3” Burrell Traction Engine and I was wondering what steam oil people recommend. I was also wondering do people use thicker oil for the pots? The reason I’m asking is because I’ve always had locomotives and the Burrell seems to have larger contact area and obviously oil on the gears too. I thought a normal oil we use on the locomotives would soon disappear being so thin.
I have been reading around on the internet and found a universal steam oil from Heritage Steam Supplies. Has anyone used this or recommends it?
