After my slitting saw disaster with a Stuart conrod casting (http://www.homemodelenginemachinist.com/index.php?topic=18463.0) I set about making a new conrod from steel with a split bronze bearing. Here I am about to trim down the little end, and then I noticed.

Whoops, can you see what's wrong?

I'm 2 for 2 on conrods so far in this build :-\

Just put one end in the vice and give the other a twist with a big wrench ;D

J

;D You're not the first to make that mistake, and I very much doubt you will be the last!

My old tired eyes show me the slice on the big end is off centre and it will be one hell of a problem to get the bottom half on, ( assuming, I'm not off with fairies again).

Best Regards
Bob

You are off with the fairies ::)

The joint is on centre, look at the side not the milling marks on the top

My advice to twist the part was because the two holes should be at 90degrees to each other not parallel

;D What's the weather like there in Fairyland Bob?

It's supposed to be a shovel handle rod I assume?......

Dave

;D Nah - side rod for a very short loco!

Design another engine around the rod hence no mistake, just practice. It is shaping up to be a good looking part

Brock

;D They are supposed to look like - this

YUP Shovel handle.....put a flat spade on the end and call it a scale coal shovel...... ::)

"I hate when I do that......."

It's looking magnificent smfr....as is usual with your work.

Dave

Far better, I think, to call a spade a spade!

No, the holes are lined up correctly; the yoke in the little end just hasn't been carved out yet, and the bit end needs thinning down.

There's another error, which no-one has spotted yet ;)

Are you talking about the taper going the wrong way?

Steve gets it! :D

Time to hack away at another big chunk of steel.
