North Bohemia, where I live in the Czech Republic, is famous for its glass works.
I came across this guy who makes engines from glass. Unfortunately his website is only in Czech but google translate does a good job. http://www.sklozam.cz/sklenene-modely/

I tried some glass blowing many years ago and had a lot of fun doing it, but I never made anything that had to move.

That is pretty neat. I have to wonder what type of glass was used here. From my perspective you would want more strength than is seen in common window glass.

In any event this sort of thing could be very educational though i wouldn't trust young students with it.
