Well I am still racking my brains for a new project,I thought I had found it with the John wilding Congreve clock but realised it was to big for our house,so thinking of the John Wilding Skeleton clock,anyone made one of these? I know it's not an engine but for me it will make a nice change with a lot of new thinking involved.
What's your views boys

I've made a few skeleton wall clocks along the way. One of my plans is displayed on my buddy's web site. http://freemansgarage.com/blog/?p=413
The only tricky part is making the wheels and lantern pinions. I've tried involute gears once with not so good results. My clocks all have 1 second pendulums and run on about 7 pounds of drive. They're fun cuz, like engines, they move and tick and stuff.

I'll post a picture when I get a chance.

Started but not finished (theres a pattern here). Plans are nice and easy with no scary parts.

I have the plans for John Wilding's "large wheel skeleton clock"
(thanks to inspiration from Chris "clickspring" YT videos !)
and have been looking them over and have some concerns

the tick rate is
(198 / 7) * (144 / 60) * 54 = 3665.828571 per hour
whereas if the rate were
(200 / 8) * (144 / 60) * 60 = 3600 per hour
it would be ticking on the seconds instead of every 1.0182257 seconds

and it gets rid of that problematic 7-tooth pinion which seems to be below
the threshold of practicality (it seems to work for those that have made this
clock but I still want to avoid it).

I can't see a reason for this, as pocket watches and wrist watches are
always a perfect multiple of 3600 beats per hour.

Yes I understand the desire in power transmission (eg in a car or truck)
to have relatively prime gear teeth numbers to even out the wear,
but since pocket watches and wrist watches don't do that I don't see
why a clock should do that either.

thoughts ? comments ?


secondly I'll be looking for a way to fabricate it without throwing out the
majority of the brass stock, so at least the frame will be silver brazed, maybe
even welded, from bar stock, not sure yet about the wheels.
