I've been using the "Norman Patent" tool post for quite some time on my Myford S7LB lathe. You should be able to find my WIP posts along with drawings based on the original 1889 patent.

And my rear parting off one.
31-07-2019x002.JPG

I deliberatly made the tool blocks interchangable so that I can use either on the front or back. Note the split collet fastening as per the original design.

I've just acquired a left and right hand pair of Eccentric Engineering Diamond tool holders.
Using the standard Myford 4 way ratchet standard tool holder, I got a 'jam' and a failure of it to rotate.:(

OK, I have at least Two degrees of freedom. One is to made a tool holder which is nothing more than 3 squares of mild steel bolted together and I have one of these so called Quick Change Tool post malarkey.
All is not gloom because the Eccentric things came with a honing jig making it possible to hone with a 600 grit diamond 'oil stone'

More Anon.

Hi Norman. I made a copy of the Eccentric diamond tool holder. Yes, It's good, but I mostly use a carbide tool on another position of my 4-way tool post, as I prefer a radius in the root corner of most parts. But it has its uses. My back tool post with a parting tool is the "Norman patent"type as shown above by Kronos and Baron. It has the advantage that if my hand feed is "too optimistic" for the cut, it will slide up the cylindrical column a small amount to relieve the cut. But (maybe my technique has improved with practice?) that is a fairly rare incident, though saves the part and tool when it happens. A good tool post with screw adjustable height. I recommend anyone to make one, especially for a back tool-post for parting!

Thanks Ken but really I'm only able to play in my little workshop
As A high risk COPD and ancient widower living alone and unable to go out for 12 months already and now the threat of the lockdown for folks like me is now extended to April- at the least.
So I'm literally trying to keep remotely sane.
I try to keep the link to future more demanding( Bloody demanding) events in balance.
I sometimes can get a Zoom Finance and General Purposes Meeting in and try to estimate losses in membership from, deaths, lack of funds through unemployment and depression ( which I am trying to avoid)

So may I sincerely thank you for your interest and concern.

Regards

Norman
