Good evening all,
After watching an interesting program about German engineers and engineering during WW2 i'm inspired to build a simple pulse jet engine.

Does anybody have any experience of building these engines? If anybody knows where I could find any plans for this type of engine id be very interested to hear.

Regards Dom

Actually I built one! I suppose that it was 1944 or 1945 and I was a school boy.

The design was by a Corporal Henwood of the RAF and it appeared in 'Aeromodeller'.

if I said that it was 'interesting' I'd be understating it.

A bit later, a Colonel C E Bowden wrote a book on 'Pulse Jets'- probably in Argus or such.

Just that bit later, I had the opportunity of examining a genuine Smidtt Argus engine from a captured V-1. By the time that I was 18, I was sleeping in a building that was at old RAF Hendon and had been hit bit an exploding V-1.

You want 'Dambusters' or whatever. This is the 70th Anniversary of dear old RAF 617 Breaching the Dams and going on to using tallboys on 'Tirpitz' and to Peenemunde.
Sister squadron to my RAF 31 Squadron. One of their GR4's flew across my car on the way to 'Tornado Alley' in the Cairngorms this morning.

Have fun!

I hope that you have a good relationship with your neighbours, when they are running you can hear them blocks away. Had a friend make one years ago and was it loud:eek: could not run for too long as it glowed red hot in a short time.

Loud angry things they are. Quite simple to very complex depending on which you make. Put pulse jets plans in Google images and you get a plethora of plans. Anyone up for a miniature V1 minus the explosion?

Here one of my bigger one's.

I build also several FWE engines. Great engines , quick starters......

I can confirm they are LOUD. You can 'feel' the sound through your body. Lots of info on the link posted by Sshire, but be very cautious about buying anything from that bloke.

Video below is a half scale Argus, built in Sweden. Keep an eye on the crowd when it lights :D

I would like to make a PJ, but I don't have the gear or sheet-metal skills to form & weld the tubes. Does anyone know if there are plans to make one using shop-bought tube and turning the remaining parts on the lathe? I want a static model, so weight is not an issue.

When I was a boy you could buy pulse jets called Dyajet , very loud and glowed red hot .

Dear Jack,

If you want , i can mail you a drawning from a very simple pulse-jet. Some tubes you can direct buy. Just make the burning chamber & the dome. It is very easy.
You need just some pipe's & a vise. And a hammer offcourse. So you hammer that sheetmetal around that pipe & thats it.

And you know maybe somebody who can weld. In less than 1 hour you can build this one & works directly.

With this program it is also very easy for make the lay-outs for the burning chamber & the dome.

So , if you want the drawning , send me a Pm with your email adres than.
