We are a small family company from eastern Poland. We produce small models of steam engines. Our models are made of brass. The motors are manufactured in a traditional way, we do not use digital machine tools. We operate with chisels, milling machines and lathes. We cast our engine components ourselves. We have a small crucible furnace. Steam machines are the result of our imagination and the strength of our hands.

As a rule, we produce engines that are ready for operation. It is enough to connect a boiler or a compressor.

Sometimes, however, it happens that the customer wants to assemble the engine himself. There is such an option. The only element that is already assembled is the cylinder.

Unfortunately, we do not have instructions for self-assembly, so the customer has to handle it by himself.

This is my favorite engine. It was not built by us, but only renovated. It has a powerful cast iron base. Thanks to this, it can weigh up to 10 kilograms. These models were produced in Poland from 1955 to 1974? We currently have several in different colors. The rest are waiting for renovation.

Now for a bit of history. I would like to tell you about my favorite models - School models of steam engines.

Production

These machines were probably produced from the 1940s to the time that we are not able to give exactly (but it looks like the 1970s) in two variants. In the form of a cross-sectional model illustrating the operating principle of a steam engine (double-acting with a stator) and in a working form.

The machine was started using a Papin cauldron, also found in physics laboratories. What may seem strange, cross-sectional machines were made in the plants in Częstochowa, and the working machines and Papin cauldrons were made by the plants in Poznań.

The school model of the steam engine presented in the photos was produced especially for educational purposes. The model is solidly made, all metal, not counting the belt transmission belt (the weight is close to 7 kg). Steam from the Papina boiler or compressed air from the compressor is supplied under the piston in the cylinder, connecting the hose to the stub pipe. The role of the flywheel, placed between the bearings and mounted on the shaft, is to support the movement when the piston changes the direction of movement and to ensure uniform rotation of the machine under variable load. On the extension of the crankshaft there is a pulley, which is used to connect the engine with the power receiver (for example, it may be a school generator). The revolutions are limited by closing the throttle controlled by a centrifugal regulator. The used steam escapes from the cylinder through the exhaust pipe.

This model is a real working steam engine. This was intentionally marked in the title to distinguish this model from the sectional model of the steam engine. The cross-sectional model of the steam engine has a cut cylinder so you can see how the piston and steam distribution work. This gives the opportunity to better explain the structure and principle of operation, but it does not allow the machine to start. We will get the best demonstration effect with both of these models.

That's very interesting. I have been lucky enough to visit Poland a few times with Polish friends living in the UK and have visited Częstochowa, though like most people not for reasons of industrial history! I have been to a few industrial museums in more out-of-the-way places - I wonder if you know the museum based around a very old factory which used to produce spades and shovels, using water power? From memory it was located centrally, not so far from our starting point in Piotrkov Trybunalski. We also visited a museum of the oil industry, in the far south-east.

I would be interested to see more pictures of your production. I do some small-scale casting here, as do a number of the posters on this forum.

We normally produce ready-to-run steam engines.

Although it sometimes happens that the client wants to assemble the model himself. Then we send him the finished engine parts. The customer just folds them. We do not have instructions for self-assembly, so the customer has to handle the assembly by himself.

It costs the same as a normal model. Each model (even for self-assembly) is assembled and tested by us. After testing, we take it apart (except for the cylinder, which is already sealed).

When buying several models, we set the price individually.
