I got a random phone call the other day from someone who found out I had an interest in steam things, and he has a Powell steam whistle that needs to be repaired, which I can do if I can find out a few things.
I have a few simple steam whistles, one of which I have repaired, but I am not a steam whistle expert by an measure.
It looks like the cap on the valve chamber sheered off.
I don't see the sheered off part embedded in the whistle body, and so I assume it has been cleared out.
The questions are:
1. Does the cap use straight or pipe thread?
2. I assume this is just a simple cap, and serves no other function but to close the hole in the side of the valve body?
