I took a couple of day to make some lamp holders for my friends 1928 Model A Ford Fire Truck. He has been searching for a couple of years and couldn't find any but he did find a guy that loaned him a part to copy.
Originally it was nickel plated brass castings, that was out of the question so I offered to make him some out of some scrap alunimum out of my metalstock.

All I have to do is install the light sockets when he gets them to me.

It was a fun challenging project including simple turning, tapers, threading, drilling and polishing. Now my friend is thrilled to finally have lights for the back of his Fire Truck. :D

Beautiful work Jack!

We call that "reverse engineering" It sounds a lot better than copying
a design.

Using your skills to help out a friend... I'd call that "FANTASTIC!"

If it was made before, we can make it again. Only difference is we use
electricity to turn our lathe now. In 1928 it was most likely steam, water
or foot powered. I had an opportunity to run a treadle lathe once.
Talk about a work out!
