hello everyone
Recently I was at the dump and I stumbled across an australian army ww2 ammo box full of old tools and rock drilling bits, and being me I bought the lot for $20
and I am wanting to know what this tool is
from what i can tell it is some sort of ratchet that can only go one way.

it cleaned up nicely, sadly there were no marks on it from what I could see
but what i do know is that the box had a lot of pipe cutting and threading tools, leading to me to believe that the previous owner to be a plumber, if that is any useful information.
Thanks
Greg

It is a ratchet drill. It took the now obsolete bits with tapered square shanks. It was used with an "old man" that clamped to the work and had an arm under which the ratchet drill was placed. The nut on top of the ratchet drill contacted the arm and was turned to provide down pressure for drilling. The Cole Drill integrated the ratchet drill and old man.

I have a ratchet drill with a no. 1 Morse taper, but no old man to use it with.

Snap I have two of these that we found in my late Father's garage, different sizes. Now I know what they are. :)
