I am making new valve cages for my Silver Bullet, that are now Drill Rod. Would cast iron be a good choice? This would enable some nice valve seats, I hope.

I think cast iron valve cages would be just fine. I have an engine with the valve seats and guides milled right into a cast iron head. It's the first IC engine I ever built and it still runs great.

I wish I could get small diameter cast iron, McMaster only has it in 5/8" minimum.
