measure an Id that is less than 180 with round rolls

In the home shop machinist magazine in the 1980ies there was an article about using 3 round rolls stacked in a round part to measure the Id. I have looked in my collection of hmsm and I can't find it. Marv asked me to show him the math ,which I forgot, so I need to find it.
