Hello All, i am selling a couple engines for a friend (Earl) of mine because he just moved into a retirement home and no longer needs them.

Earl says this is a Marklin hot air engine. Does anyone know how old is? About how much is it worth? I looked all over the net and can't find one the has been sold. Here are pictures and a video of me running it. It runs nice.

Thanks for any help.

Well, i still have not been able to find any of these engines to compare prices.

So, the price is $950.00

I really don't want to ship it so it will be pick up only (Quakertown PA 18951).

Cash only (no checks)

Hi, According to my reference book "Blechspielzeug" 1993 printing, this engine was made from 1921 to 1929. The values quoted for this engine are shown in DM's, not Euro's and range in value from DM750 to DM4500 depending upon the size and condition. Hope this helps.

I don't think you should sell it for that money, you should put it into specialised auction house. I don't know about the US but here in the UK these go for huge money at auction.

That seems like a reasonable price, there's one on ebay in Germany for around that much.

If you want some definite answers you may want to go to the unofficial mamod and other steam forum, that's where all the toy steam experts live.

Good luck.

After more searching i found one that sold in much worse shape for 2300 euros in 2007. I didn't realize how old it was..i guess it was made in the 1920's?

I would feel like a total heal if i sold Earl's engine for half of what it is worth!

When Earl and i were sitting at his kitchen table running the engine he said that it is worth a lot of money, something that i have never heard him say about something before although he didn't say how much and i didn't think the condition was that great but, i didn't realize how old it was. I think i should take a step back and rethink how this engine should be sold.

I found the one on ebay Germany and it is missing the stairs, railing and upper platform. Thanks for the information. The more the better.

Well, i just got off the phone with Earl and he said all things considered, he would be ok with selling it for $1200.00 cash (no checks) if someone is willing to pick it up at my home (Quakertown PA 18951).

Thanks everyone for all of the help!

I will post this up on the smokestack as well.

G M & Cie --> Gebr. Märklin & Cie. Also an original Märklin product. :)
