I have a Grizzly G0704 mill, which I think is an excellent machine. It has a nice large table, R8 spindle variable speed motor.
But somehow the thing has become strongly magnetized- when I cut steel the chips cling to the tool. If I move off the work it will hold up a 1/2" long thread of chips. The chips stick to the tool and make scratches in the work.
I have a bulk tape demagnetizer which I have run all over the spindle and mill head. It works a bit, but in just a couple minutes its all magnetized again. I use Tormach holder and any one I put in gets magnetized.
The mill has a DC motor, I wonder if somehow there is a stray magnetic field outside the motor.
has anyone seen anything like this?
