I did something similar a while ago on a considerably simpler part.
I was making a new meths burner for a Bing loco.
The filling bolt is in a corner as there is space above in the loco for the bolt to sit there.
Of course I drilled the hole on the wrong side of the tank for the wick pipe. :big:
Shoved some brass rod in the hole and silver soldered it up then filed and W&D it back and you can hardly tell now.
 
Back in the days of film photography, one of the books that I read on the subject (suspiciously published by Kodak) said that the difference between a professional and amateur photographer was the number of photos discarded.

If none of the above solutions will satisfy your need, just make the cylinder over :toilet:

Of course, repurposing this one could be a challenge.
