Just a small update on my humble workshop (er shed)

So I've been absent from here for a little bit and I just thought I'd post an update to show I haven't lost interest and ran to the hills.

I got around to buying some needed kit for my setup, which now consists of...

Magnetic stand
Dial indicator
X2 micrometer, (one for quck checks one for best)
Dead center
Live center
Bench grinder
HSS blanks
And some various taps and dies that I needed at the time.

I also bought a little magnetic light as well which will be handy for the grinder amongst other things.

I had a dig in the scrap box today and I think I have materials to make up a crank handle for my lathe, I'm missing some flat bar though so I'll buy this when I'm next at the suppliers and post the results of my trials below.

Also i made some little bits just before christmas, which should be shown below.

Haven't had much time over the Christmas period to do very much in the shed, but hopefully now I can get myself back out and working on my lathe again, with a little free time.

Been playing around today, and since it was freezing cold I thought I'd stand still and turn my cross slide handle real slow, the results of a few hours stood still........

A faceplate that's gone from 5thou out to around 5tenths of a thou. I got a lot of chatter at one point, and it showed on the faceplate, so took the cut the other direction to get under the chatter marks on the work. Didn't work and next pass there was still chatter, so changed to a slower speed, (next was back gear), and also stoned the tool to ensure a sharp tip, and tried again after a second pass I got through without any chatter so I think there must have been a chilled bit of casting on the faceplate. Thats my thought anyhow.
