Hi All,

I have bought new bearings for my mills leadscrews, a Clausing 8520 mill.
Removing the old ones was really tough to do and required some
gentle persuasion with Mr. Hammer.

What is the best way to install the new ones on the leadscrews without
any damage to them?

Thanks!
Andrew

warm they up and cool the shaft

ie get em just to hot to hold with bare hand and you will be safe , in industry with temp controlled muffles you can take them higher ( to manufactures specs) of it they are really big about 24 inch id the use a go no go gauge )

Sit them atop a 100 watt incandescent bulb for fifteen minutes or so.

The mere possession of one of those here is a hanging offense. Ain't it grand having all these do-gooders saving the world for us.

There has to be an exception, big shops run 400W metal halide or 1,000w metal halide.

It would be funny as hell to see a big shop with 200 60 watt bulbs. :big:

Lead screw in the fridge and the bearing under a small halogen desk lamp.
Wait 15 minutes and they popped right on!!!!!

It was so cool to learn something new!!!! Again!!! :big:

Thanks for all the help!!

Andrew
