I am sure I am not alone having experienced the 'lets try a bit deeper cut' syndrome.
After spending over an hour to get to the final machining op I committed the cardinal sin of not taking care.
Putting a heavier cut to speed things up caused the job to wrench out the lathe and ... well.. see the difference between taking time and getting a result!

We all make mistakes, some just won't own up to theirs.
Better to lose a part then run a busted file through the palm of the hand like I did. Was tired and it was the last thing I did intending to quit after rounding a rod end. Lucked out with minimal damage to the hand with no lasting debilitation to it.

Take lotsa tea breaks & pee breaks when you are tired or impatient.
The last cut can be the almost completed job's death blow.
Gus learnt the hard way. PATIENCE.
