ID this Russian tool

This tool was purchased by a friend in 2001.

It was destined for Cuba but the shipment landed up in Canada somehow.

Any ideas on what it is??
It is very cool whatever it is supposed to be!

"Линейка" = ruler.

It's a ruler used to verify flatness and straightness of parts. You put it on the allegedly flat/straight surface and look for light to seep through the defect area.

I'm pretty sure,you call it straight edge ruler,knife straight edge or just straight edge.
In Germany it's called Haarlineal.

I think it probably came from Stan Can tools. They were a Russian importer of machine tools in the 80s I can't find them listen now. The machines came in from Russia and the electrics and controls were installed here. Most of the fellows working there had two tool boxes one with Russian tools and one with Canadian/USA tools, they did dust off the tops of the Russian boxes but I don't think they used them.
