One for the Europeans. Does anyone have a source for holding down straps ? I can only find complete holding down sets. I'm talking of the sets in red stands. I'm looking for just the straps with the dog toothed ends that match the triangular raising blocks. The ones I have are only short and result in the bolt fouling the bottom of the raising block when used at full height, Pictures of complete sets seem to show much longer ones, but they never seem to be offered seperately. Ideally to suit 8mm bolts.

In Britain, we know these as clamping sets. In exchange for £157, even Amazon sell them. The straps and blocks are the same, but the studs and nuts can be either M12 or 1/2" Whitworth. Given enough time these do wear out, so I'd go with metric for ease of replacement. I don't know if the case colour is a means of denoting the threads used. The set Amazon sells are metric.

Above is what searching for a hold down strap returns.
This is what gets used when one is hauling something (different sizes for different purposes) can get straps in 1, 1.5, 2, 3, 4 and even larger sizes.
I have a bunch of 4 x 25,4 x 30 and even 4 x 40's that I use on my semi-trailer.
Bought some even longer for another project - - - - - beats the snot out of chain (transport 70 or 80 or 100 lifting chain for pricing too and far easier to handle!!!).

What you are looking for I find, easily by the way, when looking for machinists hold down step clamps.
Mr Jeff's emporium seemed to have quite a selection for a start.

Google search for "milling machine work holding strap clamp" produces lots of correct pictures.
My local shop here, sells the items from the clamp set single, so it should be available.

Greetings.

You could try contacting G&M Tools or Home and Workshop Machinery - they tend to accumulate engineering flotsam and jetsam, oft time that sort of stuff isn't even listed on their websites, so it's best to ring 'em. You'll have to re-read Lfiero's post for the obvious pitfall here.

Try the terms "Step clamps or strap clamps"
Here is a page from Shars' catalog. They offer 2-4-6"
shars.com - Clamping Components

a few of which are showing discontinued.

Scott
I've been using those terms unsuccessfully. Shars do do exactly what i'm looking for. A pity they are the wrong side of the pond ! I'd hoped to find a Chinese source. Their freight is usually cheaper and there are no import charges !

Also check eBay. Many sellers ship using their "Global Shipping Program", which is often astonishingly cheap and fast.

Chronos is a reputable firm who I started to use in the mid 80s, when they were working from a shed hidden in a St Albans backstreet. They don't even list complete sets, for some reason! However, what they do stock is posted out for free in the UK.

Following are some pics from catalogue of an Indian manufacturer. Maybe he can ship to you.
