I just picked up a length of steel bar from the local hardware store (OSH, in California), and it's made by "Steel Works", of Hillman, Cincinnati, OH.

Does anyone know what allow this would be, and how suitable for machining it is?

Thanks
Simon

The pieces I've used (it's in hardware stores here too) seem to be just like low-end hot-rolled steel. Machines ok, but not really nicely like 12L14 or something.

Their aluminum on the other hand is very gummy and not much fun to machine.
