I hope this , my first toe dip , is an appropriate thread to ask the question, if not would the moderator please move it to the right place ! .
Ok , so I am a member of the Wolverhampton & District Model Engineering Society, a registered charity , with an operation at Baggeridge Country Park , where we have a developing track on which we offer free rides for all , but ask for a donation from those who feel they can afford it .
We have decided to construct a new Steam Powered Locomotive, 7 1/4” g Sweet William 0-6-0 , with the principal aim of exposing our new or novice members to the Engineering workshop , hoping to pass on skills and techniques which are needed in such a project , some have no experience at all .
Of the group involved , the request has been made to consider firing the loco by means of gas , a system no one within the club has any knowledge of for anything larger than g1 .
I have seen an article about “Marty’s “ burners , which I found very encouraging, and I have attempted to contact Los Angeles Live Steamers , who I am led to believe are large users of gas fuelled locos , but I have had no response.
Does anyone on this forum , have knowledge and experience Of operating this form of firing , I particularly would like to know how the plumbing is done , what kit is used , what safety devices are employed and how the insurance company views this system where passenger hauling is involved?
Any help would be appreciated.
David
