Height gauge questions

I acquired a Starrett #454 height gauge. I have not been able to find a manual or instructions for it online.
I cannot for the life of me figure out how to "0" it, the only adjustment is for the vernier.If someone has one or is familiar with the 454 could steer me in the right direction it would be appreciated.

reply #10 My Starrett #25 catalog printed in 1935 says that the 24" 454 measures from 1-1/2" to 24"

I believe this one measures only down to 1". So with a 1" gauge block adjust the vernier to 0. Add 1" to all measurements.

Thanks for the replies, I have both anvils so I will try combinations of them until I get a reading that will work with the gauge block
