Today is the birthday of Robert Stirling,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Stirling

the inventor of our much-beloved Stirling engine.

Since he was a Scot, I'm going to lift a dram of single malt to his memory after the sun is over the yardarm.

For history buffs, it's also the anniversary of the Battle of Agincourt, which gave Shakespeare the inspiration for his play "Henry V" and taught Englishmen the two-fingered salute. :)

right - 2 fingers of Speyburn it is.

Here's to Robert. *beer* While you're at it, tipple your Cognac to Rosie Ledet, Creole Zydeco accordion player and singer, it's her birthday as well.

She plays the accordian! That's all I need to know. I'm putting aside the fact that she may have thrown her baby off the Tallahatchie Bridge.

And Happy Birthday, while we are at it, to Cap'n James Cook!

That's right, it's tomorrow in Oz - well, my tomorrow anyway. Cook has always been one of my heroes. From him I learned to always lock up my rowboat.

10/27 is also the birthday of another famous Brit, John Cleese, the comic mastermind who invented funny walking and starred in the infamous dead parrot sketch.

... and who could forget FAWLTY TOWERS - only ever 13 episodes, but graven on history's big rock!
