I've been watching from afar for many years, awed by many of the projects shown here. I managed to score some nice machining equipment when my former employer let go 100 toolmakers and all their gear, so now I have everything quasi-setup in a new shop. My biggest problem is that I appear to have more planned projects than lifetime. So by joining this community I hope to get the support and inspiration to get some of them done. My first project(s) is Elmers #29 Mine Engine X 2, about 60% complete. Given the amount of setup/cleanup time, i'm making two of everything.
A few things recently learned:
1. Tiny parts in a large vise can be transformed into flat stock with ease.
2. Machining stainless requires help from Harry Potter or his friends
