Interesting. Luckily I don´t have oxy-acetylene in my shop, or I might be tempted to try. I´ll just keep on buying my tips ;D

Interesting.. I wonder if broken carbide bits could be melted down and recast? I've got a bunch of them :p

Won´t be easy. But the cobalt that is used to bind the tungsten carbide particles, melts at 1495 °C (2723 °F), so if you can get your melting pot to a bit over that, you´re in business. Oxy-acetylene will go to some 3,500 °C, so there´s lots of leeway there. Maybe with a BIG (or many a) torch?
(Iron=1538 °C, 2800 °F, or about the same)
Carbide bits can be (and are) recycled, but usually not at home... ;D
