I have started the challenge of building a double acting horizontal steam engine from scratch. I will attach pictures as the work progresses.

That cylinder sure looks like a fine start.

Red:

How big is that thing?

If that's a standard 8-1/2" x 11" piece of paper that the cylinder is sitting on, it looks like this engine is going to be a monster - as far as models go that is.

Thanks for the encouraging words, the bore is 2.005 with a 3" stroke. I finished a PM Research #3 (my first engine) in the spring and most folks would comment on how cute it is, so I decided to build a monster. I am hoping to find the materials and a solid design for the construction of a proper and safe boiler so I can run on live steam and work this thing.

Started back on the steam engine last month. Here is the crankshaft nearly finished.

I have not posted on this build for far too long. Kinda put the build on a back burner but I have decided it needs to be project #1. I want to get this one across the finish line by summer time. This week I cut a keyway sans broach.
