What happened to this group ?

I don't see anything left of it on the web, except a few stray photos.

FAME was one of the first groups I found on the web. Used to get a ton of information when I started building. David Kerzel was administrator. I was on the web site just last year so it has only recently disappeared. I think it demise was a change in David's interests and a cumbersome site. You had to send your photos and text to David and he would add them to the site. Many talented people were there. I'm sure many are still here.
