Hello,

I recently bought a motor on Ebay. This seemed so far quite okay. It has 36cc, good compression and a breaker ignition. Everything is very smooth. The ignition gives a spark, powered by 6v motorcycle battery.

However, I can't get the engine to run. I have made many attempts by hand, No chance. With a belt and a drill I can't get the engine to start either, but at high rpm it fires up every now and then. But it still won't run on its own. I have the feeling that it is the carburetor. When it fires, gasoline drips out of the carburetor. Does anyone have any tips?

Before you fault the carburetor check the simple things. Spark, spark plug, compression, valve seating.
To check the intake valve hold your finger over the air intake and turn the engine over, if the fuel draws up the clear fuel line and then pushes back in the line on the compression stroke, the intake valve is not seated.
Listen closely at the exhaust pipe and turn the engine over slowly, you will hear it leaking on the compression stroke if the exhaust valve it not seated.

I can't tell from the photos, but is the top of your fuel tank below the carb? If it is above as soon as the engine tries to start it will go way too rich to run and lead to fuel dripping out of the carb.

I had a similar problem. It turned out to be the ignition timing magnet would slip on the shaft .

Good luck and keep us posted.
