Hi Folks
I have just acquired a jacobs chuck in very good condition, but minus
the arbor.
The writting on the side of it reads 34-02 0-1/2in 0-13mm 2 taper
and my question is this, how do i determine whether it is a
MT2 - JT1 MT2 - JT2 ect.
For use on my lathe which has a MT2 tailstock.
Ideally i would like to use it on my mill, but my mill is a MT3 and uses
a 12mm draw bar. not sure if such an adapter exists scratch.gif

Any Help you very experienced folks could give would be very much
appreciated
Ken

It is usually stamped on the side of the chuck....take a close look.

Maybe one of the UK guys can give a UK source with the metric draw bar thread. but I venture to say what you are looking for does exist.

Ken I'm sure I have a MT2/JT2 arbor here somewhere. I also have a MT3 half inch chuck. If you pay the postage you can have both, but you need to find yourself a chuck key. You don't need a drawbar in your mill for drilling just don't try putting a milling cutter in the drill chuck.

Hi Guys
Sorry I've been a little while getting back to you, been away visiting
family.
Just like to say a big thankyou for the replies.

Tin thanks for the link, i have bookmarked the site for future use.

Vic thanyou also, for your link another very handy site to know.

'' Not sure why a MT/JT arbor with a drawbar thread is needed but you
can get them here:
In Answer to your question Vic. When i bought my mill it came fitted
with a 5mm to 20mm chuck, this chuck is fitted with a MT3 arbor
which is pulled in with a 12mm draw bar.
If that makes sense?
Being a 5 to 20mm chuck, means i can't use smaller drills than 5mm,
which is a real PITB ;D

Peter, thankyou very much for your very generous offer, i would like to
take this offer, and will gladly pay the postage, i will send you a PM.

Once again Thankyou all very very much for taking the time to reply

My Very Best Regards
Ken

PS: Also like to wish all at HMEM all the very best for 2011.
