Casting brass valve bodies for ME beam engine​

Following from the shared link that Jason posted of lost resin prints investment casting we had a little go at doing our own part in the foundry

Very rough🥹but I would say encouraging

It’s a body for valve on the ME beam engine that my mate Greg is building

Local modeller did 3d drawings and printed parts and we have been having fun casting parts

It is great to see someone making their own castings.
Its a bit tricky to get the method(s) down, but once you do, you can make some great castings.
Those are respectable casting you have made.
I learn a bit more about foundry work with every video I watch.
Brass has always been a nightmare for me to try and cast, with the zinc boiling off, and trying to get to a decent pour temperature before all the zinc burns off.
Someone said try a glass cover with brass.
I hope to make a bronze alloy, and avoid brass altogether.

Yes the zinc burn off is problematic. We put charcoal from a bit of burning wood on top of the molten brass whilst in the furnace
