Brake Cleaner used to be a CFC driven chlorinated solvent, you could use it to put fires out.
Not any more! ;-)
On the other hand the new formulation is great for getting the BBQ lit, and the waste bin if you're not careful. :D

Be very careful when using Brake Cleaner. Some kinds will create Phosgene gas when exposed to heat. A little bit of that can kill you or anyone who breathes it.

Err no! As noted above some brake cleaners will lead to Phosgene Gas when heated. As noted this will kill you or screw up your brain or body forever!

This is why a well educated welder will always ask what sorts of solvents where used to clean any maintenance part brought to him to weld on. Many solvents are problematic.

Of course there are all sorts of new formulations for brake cleaners out there, but unless you are a chemist it isn't worth the risk.
