Just a heads up if you use an angle grinder or an abrasive cut off.

If you cut off a piece of silver steel or drill rod etc - the final part of the cut goes bright red and consequently air hardens to glass hard.

Face it off with a tipped tool before bringing in one of your finely sharpened HSS cutting tools.

Guess what I just did.

It just happened to me also. Last week I bought sme pieces of silver steel and they were cut off with an abrasive disc. When I went home I deburred the edges with a file and that part that becomes red hot really gets hardened.
