Hi people,

My name is George and I live in Patras - Greece.
I made my first diesel marine engine in 1960 and next year a rotary valve single cylinder steam engine. They both had a horrible end. The first after working for about 10 secs started unscruing due to a bad balance and never worked ever since. The second was so ugly that I couldn't even look at it.
Eversince I make firing miniature firearms with no particular attention to appearance rather but to their ability to fire.
My interest in engines has never died and here I am, at least looking...
I don't know if and where I fit in and am still trying to find my way.
An early sample of my work:

George.

P.S. Please keep in mind that English is not my native language,

George, I'm sure you will fit in here just fine. What is the bore size on that little pea shooter?
Mel

Welcome George.

Very impressive work!

Ah to live in a country that still allows guns!

Very nice work on the revolver.

Cheers Kevin

I'm sorry Kevin, but I must not know where you live? You did not show on your profile. Where can't you own a gun at?
Mel

Welcome George. I too am senior and just beginning my journey into small engines with no previous machining experience. Its been a great learning experience for me, and I'm sure you'll have a great time here. If you have any questions, dont be afraid to ask. There is one great group of very experienced people here that are always willing to help. OH, and nice work on the gun.

HI Mel

I live in the UK. Used to shoot a lot over here both pistol and a Sharp's in 45-70. All handguns and most rifles were taken from us as was my firearms permit. The UK now has almost no shooting past clays and some target rifle. Black powder pistol is still OK but the laws are just too much to poke up with.

I spent a long time living in Boston MA and loved getting back into shooting.

Seeing the little revolver gave me the inclination to try to find a set of drawings for a revolver.

Cheers Kevin

Kevin,
While I do not know of any plans. it is easy to find exploded views of them, perhaps with some thought those could be used to design something.

Are blank guns OK in the UK?

Ken

Hi Ken

Theres talk afoot of banning blank firing guns as well. Air cartridge pistols like the Brococks were banned a few years ago.

I would think the only way to go would be an obsolete calibre So maybe a colt revolver in maybe 44 Russian would be OK il ask teh firearms officer first as I still get on with him.

Or move to Greece lol

Cheers Kevin

I once mentioned owning guns, on a predominiately UK inhabited board. I was very nearly declared the anti-christ. I tend to avoid getting into that debate anymore. Having had experience with violent home invasion, I wouldn't be content to live where there are none allowed in honest citizens' hands.

Nice work on the little pocket pistol. I'm guessing it fires a short .22 cal?

Steve

Hi people,
thanks for the worm welcome and support.
The revolver is a 2mm pinfire ( size can be compared to the quarter, which is approx. 1" in diam) but does not fire but blanks.
The law in Greece is very strict and no kind of firearm is allowed except for the 12 gauge hunting guns.
More of my models (all firing from 2mm to 4mm homemade cartridges since no producer obliges by making such), can be viewed at:

Regret if my English is not up to the level of a native speaker but luckily or not, I was born in Greece.

With my best regards to all,

George

HI George

I have to say your work on the pistols and rifles really is superb! theres a group in the US i used to look at from time to time that do the same as you Il look out the link and forward it to you.

Nice cats by the way.

Cheers kevin

Hi Kevin,

I have always been admiring people undertaking (and finishing) such models as steam powered traction engines (subscriber to Model Engineer since 1977 for a few years) and always wanted to ask : how many hours (and devotion o the Purpose) to build such a miracle. Will appreciate your response.
Regarding other lunatics with my personal interest, well, I know them but have been heavily frowned upon, since they make scaled down exact models and do not like firing models (Americans can fire anything from a 0.22 to a FlaK 88 legally, so they see no point in firing 2 or 3mm cartridges with pieces of art and rightly so).
Another thing that made me feel better is your workshop pictures. Having being around in several forums, I have seen workshops that look like a surgery room and I felt like a worm (my wife helps me to feel even worse!).
Last but not least, your noticing my cat was touching.

Thanks,

George

P.S. Sorry for my mistakes but... and so on.

Hi George

Well hours wise the traction engine took somthing like 3500 with painting and finishing. The one im working on now I would think more like 5000 in the end.
Mind you it soon slips past and all is enjoyable.

I do try to keep the workshop tidy but to be honest its worked in all day everyday so it does end up a real mess. Dont worry too much as long as I can find tools under the swarf. Besides a tidy workshop is one that dosnt see much work or atleast thats what I tell myself. :)

The Viagra posts seem to come from automated system that finds sits at almost random. makes for fun reading if nothing else.

My other half is 20 years younger than me and has learnt to let me do what i want. I think she regards me as a grumpy old git most of the time.
Still trying to get her to work on one of the engines LOL

Cheers kevin
