Hello Mike, sorry I have only just seen this. No drawing I'm afraid and I can't remeber what I did now. I think I probably decided that the length of the bit that is missing didn't matter as long as the crankshaft fitted. You have probably worked it out by now. I hope it all goes well for you...

    Rehardening drill rod

Thanks Arnold, that's exactly what I needed to know. Peter

    Rehardening drill rod

I have some silver steel as we call drill rod here in Blighty. I was aware that there are different ways of quenching but dont know what the difference is in the rod or how they are marked. I just wondered if the piece you are using is unknown how best to proceed and if you get the wrong medium...

    Old School Automation

Back in the 80's during a spell of unemployment I did a 6 month capstan setting/operating course and got to programme a Ward plugboard machine. Great fun. Peter.

I see issue 25 is out and mentions drawings for Pip. Could someone please confirm if it is the conclusion. My brother has kindly said he will send via paypal for me. Peter

Again it has been too long since I made any progress on this engine. I managed to make the rockers a few weeks ago but have only just got round to uploading the photos. I milled a length of steel to 1/4x3/16 and drilled and reamed the holes for the shaft before cutting to length. I decided to...

    Robins Cook Farm

Hill climbs from the steam age. Great. I havn't been to Redhill for a long time. I was born in Horley and my parents moved me away when I was 6. Still have relatives in Redhill though. Peter

    Pip radial engine

Thanks Jason. I have to admit I am a little paranoid about internet payment and dont have a paypal account. I got to the select payment page but went no further as it is usually the last thing to do. Peter

    Pip radial engine

I have no problem with paying a reasonable price for someones work. I do like to know how much the total will be. Well, need to know really as we have to watch the pennies even more now. I do have problems with buying these though. I have never used my card to buy things in a foreign currency...

    Pip radial engine

Thanks fellas. Seems too much to get it all in one issue. I liked the fact that it included machining info. It would give me a sporting chance of maybe building one. Not enough info on the site to tell anyone if it is serialised or how many parts it would be in. I fear it could end up very...

    Pip radial engine

I read about this 3 cylinder glow i/c engine on Model engine news site. It seemed to suggest we are able to buy plans for it but I have been unable to locate any. Does anyone know anything about it? Peter.

Many thanks for the input fellas. I am thinking that there is room for a set screw/grub screw on the centre of the two cams. That combined with the proper shaftlock I bought hopefully will do the trick. ttfn Peter

I’ve been doing a bit more and have the backplate made, the bearings fitted in the crankcase and produced some cams . Had a major oh no! moment on the crankcase when drilling holes for the two bearing retaining screws. The instruction was to just break through to avoid having to tap a blind hole...

an eccentric turning faceplate for the taig.

I thought at first this was a whole new post as I missed it before. Very interesting and I like the idea of clamping angle to a bar in the chuck. Must remember that. Thanks for posting Peter

    Layout Blue

Before I bought this new stuff I used to apply with a brush. The new bottle has a narrow tip a bit like a glue bottle and I find if I just wipe the side of it across the work it covers well. Dries quite quickly although when its cold and I have put it on a bit thick I end up blowing it to speed...

Hello again folks. I can’t believe it’s been a year since I did any work on this (or anything else). After distractions and lack of motivation I am pleased to say I have made some progress these last couple of weeks. I had difficulty setting up to machine the flats on the timing case. I was...

How to melt a drill bit

My method was to drill into a live cable buried in a wall. Melted the tip nicely. ;D
