    Taig 4029 CNC Ready Lathe

MillersvilleProf, Thanks for your comments on the Taig lathe. Have you done any threading on the lathe setup you have? BTW: I believe you wrote a nice review on the Taig mills several months here on the forum. Currently have a Tormach 1100 but those small Taig mill's would be a nice...

    End Mill Questions

I too would not spend $100 on an end mill unless it was a special need that had non-typical requirements. As mentioned, a little more info on your mill, etc would be helpful. I have the best luck with name-brand, non-coated for cutting AL in my Tormach. Avoid the cheap, no-name imports as...

Are cheap drill bits worth it?

My experience with drill bits the past few years have been mixed. I have gotten both good and bad from name-branded or mid-priced sets. It really depends what one is going to be drilling in and the required finish that is required. Other than a few incorrectly sharpened bits the mid-priced...

    Ultra Quiet Compressor

Hi, I picked up one of these Rolair compressors today and it's very nice. The noise level is very low and it pumps a fair amount of air. The compressor runs at 1725 RPM, and has an oil-bath pump. http://rolair.net/products/spec_pages/hand_carry/VT20TB.html#specs Robert

    Ultra Quiet Compressor

Thanks for the additional info...... I have a similar 3450 RPM, oil lub, compressor at the moment, it's not what I would call quiet. 81 dB is still fairly loud... The oiless types are pretty much non-starters from those I have been around.

    Ultra Quiet Compressor

Hi, Does anyone have any thoughts on this compressor: http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200455336_200455336 It runs at 1720RPM so that has to lower the noise just by itself. It also is oil lub so that usually helps as well. Thanks, Robert

CNC Mill vs Lathe for first machine tool

I prefer a 4-jaw..... Once you get the hang of dialing it in you find that it takes very little time to get everything setup. Robert

CNC Mill vs Lathe for first machine tool

I love my CNC tools but if I could only have one machine with your budget it would be a good manual lathe. With a lathe, some knowledge, and time you can build most anything. Depending on your location I would first look for a good used benchtop Southbend, Logan, or Atlas. They don't take up...

Where do you buy your SHCS from?

I have always used McMaster Carr but it has been awhile since I have ordered any SHSC..... Not good to hear that the quality may have declined... Robert

    South Bend 8K photos

Hi, I just read your entire thread..... Great job! I have looked at this lathe for sometime, I may just have to order one. The spindle bore is much larger than my SB9 which would be very handy. Thanks, Robert
