Sherline, Microlux or the Taig lathe/mill?

I own asian made machines as well as a Sherline lathe with milling column. The asian machines are large, heavy, and not the most accurate machines by any means. But they do work well for larger work, are affordable, and thousands of users swear by them. The Sherline is the textbook definition...

Truing up a block in the mill

Relax guys. If a beginner finds the link to the MIT vids, they have researched, read forums, and done their homework. Lathes and Mills are such niche tools that one has to research to even know where to buy one. As a beginner myself, I've watched the MIT vids many many times, and learned a...

Why is NBC's Olympic coverage so bad?

America typically favors the summer vs winter Olympics = lower demand = less ad revenue. Fascinating shows like Judge Judy and Jerry Springer sadly have more daytime viewers than daytime Olympics, and in the end the almighty dollar speaks. I think it's fine considering.

    Show Us Your Lathe

I bought this on ebay last year...brand new in box plus many new accessories for $400. Eventually I'll buy another lathe, bigger in size, but this works well for me now.

Unimat SL 1000 Lathe/Mill on Craigslist

Price needs to be reduced by at least a couple hundred dollars. I shopped for a Unimat/Mill combo for 13 months and $600 is not realistic.

    Help with boring bar

I'm attempting to make some aluminum wheels for a 1/24th scale car. The aluminum stock is about 7/8th diam. I recently bought the pictured 1/4 boring bar. How much of the bar is actually cutting? I'm assuming I need to make small cuts, with my Sherline lathe. Any help with maybe a website...

    Sieg X1

Unless you want to spend some SERIOUS time tweaking, steer clear. I have the X1, and plan to sell it soon. I'll upgrade to the Sherline Milling Column to compliment my 4000 lathe. I would recommend either Taig or Sherline. People from other boards warned me to stay away from the X1 and I didn't...

Where can I read about indexable tool holders....

I've read ALL the links in the past in hoping learn as well, but find that artistic drawings are no help. I recently acquired, for a great price, AGI's Lathe 101 course. I'm hoping video will help me visualize better versus drawings. If so, I'll pass the knowledge along here.

Comparison of between Unimat 3 and Sherline lathe wanted

I pondered for MANY MANY months on whether to buy a Unimat or a Sherline. The main disadvantage for the Unimat is that it uses bars versus a standard bed, and what I read from users was that the bars tended to flex under certain forces. I'm sure the Unimat is fine, but I opted to buy a Sherline...

    X2 table dissassembly tips wanted

I took apart my Micro Mill with absolutely no experience in doing so. It went back together easily. There aren't really any small pieces to worry about within the table, just pay attention to the order of the disassembly and you'll have no problems.

    Any Sherline lathe owners here?

Thanks all. I've looked at nearly every make and model of small lathes. The Taig is nice but I like the Sherline as it is one nice small piece of equipment. The Taig, although small, has that huge motor, mounting board, etc. Anyone NOT like their Sherline for any reason?

    Any Sherline lathe owners here?

After months of reading and comparing lathes, I'm thinking about purchasing a Sherline. The quality appears to be light years ahead of the Chinese made units, and the support looks second to none. Anyone else here have one? Was it a good purchase?
