    Cutting oak

Hi Dave, I'm a novice at wood working as well as metal working but why not miter the joint so the end grain doesn't show. Some care would still be needed to keep from tearing but tearing might be easier to hide. Jack.

    14X40 Cadillac lathe

A friend of mine just bought a 14X40 Cadillac lathe ( I'm green with envy ). He got a manual with it but no parts list. Does anyone on this site have a parts list he or she could copy? I tried the links in the thread below and had no luck. Thanks, Jack.

    Ignore this topic

Phelonius, Most if not all machine tool retailers give them out for free. Check with the one nearest you. The Marshalls store near me has them and they always have a lot of stuff on their bargain table. Jack.

    New Member

Hi Foozer, Jack here from Issaquah and a noobie also. Nice job on your first engine. Do you think the Boeing Dreamliner will ever get off the ground? I know an acquaintance working on the project who says no. Anyway, it's good to see another Wa. hobbiest(sp) on the board.

    New member in Washington State!

Orrin, Thanks for the info on the scraping class but I don't have $250 worth of interest in scraping. At my age I would like to spend my time learning all I can on the machining end of this hobby. Jack.

    New member in Washington State!

Hi Pete, Thanks for the reply. It sounds like you have a good start on the tools. When I first started acquiring metal working tools my wife couldn't understand the want or the need for more tools. Now when something new comes through the door she just smiles and shakes her head. I only hope...

    New member in Washington State!

Hi Pete, Welcome. I'm a noobe here also, over 60 and a resident of Wa. state (Issaquah). Where is Nordland, I'm going to assume it is a place populated mainly by Scandahoovians. It would be nice to know how many others on this board are from Wa. and in my case, from the Puget Sound area. What...

What does everyone do? (or did, if retired)

Retired from the printing trade after 38 years as a cameraman, stripper, plate maker, proof maker, part time pressman. Took up metal working about 2+ years ago and found myself a part-time job in a manual machine shop to help fund my new found hobby. Jack.

    Show Us Your Lathe

Hi All, Jack again. This is the lathe I have owned for about 2 years. It is a Grizzly 0554 and I bought it from a re-po depot complete with all the standard acc. + the Acurite 2 axis DRO and the q/c tool post for $3000. It looked like it had very little use and the only chips I found were...

Hi, Jack here. Found this site and joined yesterday. I have never built a model engine but hope to before too long. I got interested in this hobby by some friends I met thru a machinist friend of mine. I am presently working on a full sized engine (455 pontiac) for my 34 ford 3 window. My shop...

    My flathead

Hi Bookmaker. Just found this website today. What a beautiful engine. I have been looking for someone who has made a ford flat head V8 for about 2 years and just ran across you here. Did you make plans for this project? If so would you sell a set? To close, Is the engine done yet?
