Ruberg 6x12 surface grinder saddle lock?

Thanks for the pointers guys, I've used grinders in the past (larger auto traverse units) but this is the first machine I've owned. I've ground a few items on this one already and the rhythm was easy to pickup. Now that I've had it fully apart, I can confirm that there is no fore/aft...

Ruberg 6x12 surface grinder saddle lock?

Thanks for your replies Todd and Paul, Yep the Ruberg has double V ways on the vertical and fore/aft axis __\▀▀▀▀/__ and simple caged balls running in grooves for the left/right axis. My interest in the way lock was on the for/aft axis and mainly for stopping...

Ruberg 6x12 surface grinder saddle lock?

Hi Guys, It's been a while. I just picked up an old Ruberg surface grinder. Does anyone know if it has a saddle lock? I've had a look around but all I can find are the gib adjustments. Also, does anyone have a heads up on the lube for the saddle and z axis ways. Iv'e already cleaned...

    Reamer Resizing

I've heard that running a burnishing tool down the back of the cutting edge will shrink the cutting size a tad. BUT I haven't tried it, or needed to. Just hear say on my part. One of the more knowledgeable chaps will know for sure. I personally would not hone it while spinning it in chuck...

    Cnc steppers

I'll second the 387's. I run them direct drive with a Gecko 540 @ 50 volts on the X and Y axis of my converted X3 mill. I also run a 1200oz direct drive @ 80V on the head, but you won't need that. I have no problem cutting at 1000mm/min. Cheers, Phil

Small 10-20-40 blocks that actually work.

I just want to say thanks to John Stevenson and the guys from ARC Euro for making these cool little blocks available. Delivery was super fast, they were dispatched on Monday and arrived in Western Australia on Thursday. (4 days Thm:) I turned down a few M6 cap screw heads to reduce the exposed...

    Humour

HALLOWEEN A man was walking homealone late one foggy night, when behind him he hears: BUMP... BUMP... BUMP... Walking faster, he looks back and through the fog he makes out the image of an upright casket banging its way down the middle of the street toward him. BUMP... BUMP... BUMP...

Small 10-20-40 blocks that actually work.

Just put the order through. There were six of us all together and the items worked out to just under $50 AU for the two sets including shipping to West Oz. It would have been just over $70 AU if we had gone it alone. Thanks guys for putting your hand up and getting together. Cheers...

Small 10-20-40 blocks that actually work.

Yep 5 it is. I plan to place the order on Friday night. That will give me a chance to find out the weight and work out the shipping to East Aus. Still room for a few more to join in. I'l keep you all informed by PM. Cheers, Phil Update: Arc Euro replied to my query about the combined weight of...

Small 10-20-40 blocks that actually work.

Just a quick question for those guys that have got the two sets. What do they weigh? Armed with that knowledge and the Australia Post shipping calculator, the eastern states boys can decide if it's worth jumping in on the Western Australia order or organising there own bulk order. Three sets...

Small 10-20-40 blocks that actually work.

Well they look good, I'm thinking if we get five guys together here in Australia that want one set of each (2x 10-20-40 and 2 x 20-40-80) then we can split the shipping. The landed cost for one set of each (2x 10-20-40 and 2 x 20-40-80) to Perth, West Australia is $71.43AU, but the landed cost...

Keeping the crud out of your fixture plate holes

Hi Marv, Yeah, waxed was probably the wrong word to use. It's not full on waxed paper but it's not plain paper either. I haven't had any problems to date, I've used it for about six months now. Cheers, Phil

Keeping the crud out of your fixture plate holes

Just a tip that might be helpful to some. When I first made my fixture plate I tried to think of a quick and easy way to keep the holes clean from swarf and alike. I've settled on baking paper, It's quick to put on and easy to replace. I hold it in place with magnets. The alignment dowel pins...

G'Day from WA (Western Australia - not Washington)

I think this is Des's blog page. http://desbromilow.blogspot.com/ Hi Des, I'm in the southern suburbs of Perth. I'll be visiting Paraburdoo in Oct, but I would say by some of the pictures that you are a bit further north than that. There is quite a few Sandgropers on here now. We should all...

    Machinable wax

Hi Tin, I've mixed up a few batches using a recipe from a guy in Perth, Australia. When I find the name I'll update the post. The first batch was made using cut up LDPE zip lock sandwich bags, and the others were a mix of the first batch swarf and HDPE milk bottle tops. I purchased the paraffin...
