This is an area I have been looking at too. Steve when you say your valve lift is .070 is this actual valve lift or cam lift ( before rocker arm ratio )? John

    Yamaha Fun

Thanks Brock, it runs well enough. I didn't do anything to the engine except clean and paint, it is not the original engine and showed signs of a complete tear down, timing chain, valves were all adjusted to specs. Thanks for looking John

    Yamaha Fun

Hi Brock, the Yamaha is looking good, I'll be watching the rest of the build. I just finished taking mine for it's first shake down ride, still have a few things to get done, the seat for instance, so far have done all myself so I might as well try doing some upholstry, if anyone has any tips...

    please help identify

Thanks Red I knew someone here would have the answer. Now that I know what I'm looking for I can do a bit more research. My builds to date have been bar stock engines, I'm too cheap to buy kits! If I can get some details of the missing parts.....who knows, maybe I'll end up with a Hybrid...

    please help identify

I got a smokin deal on these castings, now if I only knew what it was....the cylinder, head, flywheel, and base are cast iron, the crankcase is cast aluminium. The cylinder and head have water jackets in them. The cylinder also has what appears to transfer ports that go from the crankcase to the...

How do you store your engines?

The following was brought up in a post and I hadn't thought about it before..... Gail brought up a topic related issue that should be considered when building, BUT more often when operating model engines. Upper cylinder corrosion is quite common in model IC engines using ferrous cylinders...

    I scored again!!!

I'm retired and the bride and I started going to auctions last year.....I'm hooked. I also can't believe the things that I let get away....I've heard of buyers remorse and sellers remorse, I sometimes suffer from "I didn't buy it remorse"-----last week I watched about 50 taps, still packaged up...

    I scored again!!!

Whooo Hooo!!!! I think I scored another bargain....at an auction, for the low price of $17.50, I obtained a box with: A Dorman 2-56 to 3/8-16 tapping head. A Drill Doctor 750sp bit sharpener A 3" vise I think I have been smiled on!! If there is anyone who has one of these Dorman tappers, I do...

    Small Sterling

Hi Matt, I used Pyrex test tubes that I got on line, can't remember where, just do a search, and you should find them. There are a number of ways to cut them, I chucked mine in the lathe (ever so gently!) spun them slowly and used a diamond cutoff wheel (from harbor freight) in an air die...

Not an engine---but what I did this summer

Jim, the advice I was given when firing a unknown/untried cannon for the first time, was to start with a much smaller charge than what I thought the final charge would be, and work your way up in small increments. I had also found a list for small cannon safety, can't remember where I found it...

Not an engine---but what I did this summer

"PFFFFFST", lots of smoke and the wad fell on the ground------Yep, that's all I got when I used some Pyrodex that a friend gave me. That black powder worked great--------keep in mind I know NOTHING about what I am doing. I do know however, that black powder is a dirty, smelly way to shoot...
