    Machinery's Handbook

I feel like I should get a copy of this manual as it seems to be the bible for this sort of work and while I imagine that I can find most of it's information scattered about the web I'd like to have one place where I look when I have questions about machine setups. Is there any major differences...

What's the best way to put 45° chamfers on everything?

I like putting 45° chamfers on everything I make on the surface edges of the part but it's always hard to hit the same amount of chamfer on all edges. Recently I've been clamping the work on a little pair of V blocks that I made and touching off the top of the corner with a endmill and facing...

What do you do to make standing at a bench all day easier?

If I put in six or more hours in front of the bench I'm a fair bit sore afterwards and I'd like to figure out how to put in longer hours without it taking so much out of me. Any recommendations? My girlfriend who used to bartend says I need a bar mat.

    Truing stock on a lathe

Forgive the elementry nature of the question but how do you true cylindricial stock on a lathe? I've just bought a little used lathe and I'm sure there is a trick to this but most of the stock that I have is bowed, bent, rough in surface etc. The method of truing a cube on the mill was...

    Feeler gauge question

I'm currently setting the valves on an engine project that I'm building and the specifications have prompted a question regarding the proper use of feeler gauges. It seems like there are three different "modes" the feeler gauge can be in. Very Tight, I can pull the gauge out but can't get it...

Drilling 3/4" C60 carbon steel balls

I have 108 3/4" carbon steel balls that have a C60 hardness that I need to drill on center. They have a "reflective finish" according to McMaster-Carr which might mean they are chromed (I haven't bought them yet). Assuming they are chromed and I cannot anneal them how much of a PITA is it going...

    Clamp Forests

Anyone have good pictures of clamp forests they've made? I find just looking at how other people have fixed work is really helpful in figuring out how I'll mount something. None of the following are mine ^Notice the threaded clamping rods?

Other (not Aluminum) bits for sale!

Well I couldn't go to IMS and not pickup some crazy stuff so I have a bunch of metal now, and if no one want's it that's fine because I'll most certainly use it but I figured I'd throw it up here in the case that someone needs some chunk and doesn't want to buy it from someone more interested in...

    Enco's 115 drill bit sets

So ENCO has a web deal on their 3in1 Model #300-0057 drill set which is a 135* Black Oxide coated "heavy duty" (oooooo, ahhhhh) set. Cheap as chips. Is there any reason I shouldn't buy this set? Are their other sources for cheaper sets or are there more limited sets that will cover the range of...

Aluminum Bits for sale (scrap price)

Original thread: http://www.homemodelenginemachinist.com/index.php?topic=12570.0 I have a huge metal supplier near me who sells aluminum by weight at around scrap price. Currently I think it's $1.50/lb. My thought is that for people who constantly feel like they are buying small bits from...
