I'm having a big problem with stripped 3mm x0.5 mm threads in a cast iron cylinder block. Each time the thread strips I drill a bit deeper and retap but it soon strips again. I've tried filling the holes with JB weld and retapping but no joy. Any help greatly appreciated. :wall:

This is certainly not a new idea but I just purchased some small hex head bolts and couldn't find a socket small enough to fit. Soldering a 6-32 socket head cap screw into a piece of hex bar soon solved the problem.

Just wondering if the strength of silver soldered joints are proportional to the amount of silver in the solder sticks. I need to solder some rods on to eccentric straps for the Westbury engine and was thinking of using 45% silver solder

Hi all. Just made a start on the Westbury side paddle engine. Plans were downloaded from Model- engineer.uk 1956 but the pics are very faded and just about impossible so see. Any advise on clearer pics greatly appreciated.

Had a spare microwave oven transformer so I thought I'd make a spot welder. Step 1. Replace heaps of turns of very thin wire on secondary winding with a lot fewer turns of very thick wire.

After reading Brian Rupnow's excellent post on the gear pump build it rekindled my interest in building a scale model hydraulic log splitter. My main problem is finding plans for an hydraulic pump. All searches seem to lead to water pumping contraptions of various shapes and sizes. Just...
