The Moriya Story -- short form !

I built the Moriya fan about 10 years ago. It has never run for over 20 minutes. I have recently purchased the Moriya 2 book. I hope to improve performance of the engine. Any ideas??

    Robinson Patent Hot Air Engine

I made this engine last winter. I had a lot of trouble with air leaks but when I got that sorted out it took off. It would not run for long as the water boiled away quite quickly. I added a cooling tank that operates on the thermo-siphon principle.

    Robinson Hot Aire engine running

Good idea about pressurizing to find leaks. I'll try that when it stops performing. TJ

    Robinson Hot Aire engine running

I have just finished making a Robinson hot aire engine from castings I bought from Polly Model Engineering in the UK. It was touch an go trying to get it running. Mostly from air leaks I could not find easily. It runs very nice now. Attached is a recent photo. The thermo siphon tank is 4" x 4"...

    British Association (BA) taps

The taps I need are to make the Robinson hot air engine casting kit from Polly Models in the UK. The sizes I need are BA4, BA6, BA8, and BA10. I'd be most happy if you could take a look at yours and let me know what you have and the price. Thanks TJ

    Lotsa free engine plans

I'm still confused. The stirling I'm looking at is near the top of the website referenced in the original post. I've printed the plans and it is definitely a stirling. We must all be confused!

    Rev.Stirling model engine

This stirling engine is a copy of one made by Rev. Stirling in the early 1800s. It is running on a propane burner. However any fuel would work. It is water cooled but will only run for 30 minutes. It is the engine he gave to the University of Edinburgh for teaching purposes.

    Hit & Miss IC engines.

This sounds more like a fuel problem. Check to see if gas is flowing back to tank when engine is coasting. It may need a check valve in fuel line.

using o-ring as a piston ring

I have started making a new piston so I get can get the groove for a 1/16" o-ring correct. I to would like to know what kind of surface I need in the cylinder and how to achieve it. Is it as simple as a wood dowel wrapped with crocus cloth? All help is appreciated. TJ

using o-ring as a piston ring

I appreciate the great replies. All good information. As the piston I was working with already had a ring groove cut in it. It was over 0.093" I went to the next cross section o-ring (#117)and groove. The charts called for .140"groove width. As I am using the larger o- ring six I do believe I...

using o-ring as a piston ring

Does anyone have any information on dimensions for ring groove depth and width while using an o-ring for a piston ring. I've done it before but it was a hit and miss operation. I thought I had seen a formula but cannot find it now. All help would be appreciated. TJ
