Hey Daniel, We moved from Atlanta (Doraville) last year and are just up the road in rural Jackson county. 'Bout 4 miles from Braselton. I'm not really into engines yet but joined for the wealth of info available about mini lathes and mills. Still on a learning curve with both but already turned...

    Microlux - opinions?

I've got both the MicroMark 7X16 lathe and the new SX2 500W R8 mill. Both were packed superbly and shipped pronto. One thing I decided to do as an upgrade was order the air spring lift kit from LMS. If you look it up now they state it won't work with the 500W belt drive mill. Problem is the...

    Looking for a "best way"...

Got 4 pieces of 7/8" square 14" long and only need 1 piece rounded for about 6". I will keep the rest for future use and not into buying brass just yet. Will keep the swarf in a ziploc for future scrap if the price keeps rising :) ...history of the brass acquisition. Before wedding my spouse...

    Looking for a "best way"...

Thanks everyone. I guess I'll just go with the lathe and 4-jaw. The stock is 14" long but I'll only be turning about 6" of it. I have some HSS toolbits I haven't profiled yet so will dedicate the 1st one to brass.

    Looking for a "best way"...

I have some 7/8" brass square stock that needs to be round. Just getting started with this machining hobby and have read that lathe turning it directly may not be the way to go. That the interrupted cutting action might put a strain on things. Besides the 7X16 500W lathe w/5" 4-jaw I have the...

    Found the "Mother Lode"...

...just getting started in the machining hobby. Got Micro-Mark 7X16 lathe and Mini-Mill. Looking for online sources for metal I found Metal Supermarkets. I needed some steel plate, to mount the mill on, so I could deal with the stiffening of the column, etc. to eliminate flex and get the best...

Little machine shop high torque mill ?

Wow Mallefic!...sure seems like a lot of work (and material) to accomplish the same thing I did. I'm PC challenged re: posting pics...if you look at the headstock mounting block part of the kit just picture moving the screw holes over a bit (milling or filing) and attaching it with longer (I...

Little machine shop high torque mill ?

HI...just registered so I can add to this thread. I have the Micro-Mark version of this mill and the air spring kit from LMS will NOT work without mods. The motor mount is set farther back on the headstock so the supplied mounting block will not fit. I didn't notice this when I ordered mine as I...
