    My son's wobbler

Going to try this picture posting thing again. This is the simple wobbler I turned out for my son. Its my own design and took a weekend to make. Everything is fairly robust - so far it has stood up to a 9yr old's attentions for the better part of a year. Piston diameter is a little on the...

Watch your off hand and other body parts!

Had a narrow squeak as an apprentice 25 years ago. I was wearing a loose silver neck chain and drilling using an electric hand drill. Putting a bit of force on the drill I leant in real close, cheek against the machine. At some point I noticed the chain had slipped through the ventilation slots...

    bedding down the lathe

Thanks Guys for all the advice. Took me a while to reply as I have been away and also waiting for the dust to settle after the HMEM change over. I have decided to run with it as is for the moment. Cannot fault the machines operation and it turns true on the parrallel which is what I consider...

    bedding down the lathe

No there is no vibration and it seems to be turning parallel ok Jeff, so I guess maybe I am being too fussy. Its just I never expected to get any movement on the clock by putting hand force on the bed. Thanks for the link on how to deal with photos - will work on it tonight.

    bedding down the lathe

OK these pics are not the best and I have had to downsize them cos our internet is sooooo slooooow, but it should give you the idea! The tray and cabinet is all 1/8th pressed steel and the longitudinal supports under the tray are 1/8th by 1 inch flat bar. The bad paint job is where the...

    bedding down the lathe

Hmmm... that's what I fear too. The guy who owned it before me had already reinforced the cabinet but I don't think its enough. I'll get some pics of the setup and post them tonight.

    bedding down the lathe

Guys I need some advice here. Recently I have changed lathes from an old Myford 7 to a pristine (I mean really pristine! - I know the history of this machine and the guy that owned it was a real perfectionist!) Myford Super 7. It is mounted on a steel cabinet which is bolted to the concrete...

    Hello from RSA

Hello Everyone, First off a big "well done" for a really great site. I have been lurking in the backround for a while rather stunned by the fine quality of the work I see on this site. Anyway I finally plucked up the courage to add my five cents worth. I'm an ex-marine engineer, current farmer...

    Crucibles

Hi All, I have been lurking in the backround for a while and I must say this is a really great site - well done! My brass scrap box is growing rather full and needs to be smelted down and recast. A couple of years ago I did the job using an old clay pot as a crucible which worked for a few...
