need massive info dump on solder/brazing

Have a look at www.brazingbook.com Some years back I had d/l a pdf version, "The Brazing Book" from Handy & Harman Canada but that website has disappeared. It is now available from: www.fpga-faq.org/sb-metal_hold/CD_08/TheBrazingBook.pdf

    Bevel gears ?

Kozo Hiraoka's book "Building the Climax" From Live Steam Press has a very detailed segment on cutting bevel gears. This includes making/hardening the gear cutter, blank gear-holding jigs and the actual cutting of the gears using a lathe. Was able to have a look at a friend's copy but an...

Opinions on power connections for home shop machines

Just wondering... If the motor/vfd combo requires "x" amps is it enough that the breaker is that value or is higher capacity required to allow for startup current?

    Adapting Lathe Chuck

Thanks for the replies. Great idea with the MT spindle. I can get a 3MT adapter with a blank, unhardened nose that I can machine.

    Adapting Lathe Chuck

I have a chance to purchase a little-used (if at all) 4-jaw universal (scroll type where all jaws move together instead of the independent style) at a great price. It is intended for a Taig lathe. The mounting is a 3/4"-16 internal thread. How best to mount it on a mini-lathe? Thanks

    Mini-Lathe; T-slotted cross-slide...?

Dave Fenner wrote a series of articles for Model Engineers' Workshop (www.model-engineer.co.uk) about the mini-lathe. Part 12, in #144, November 2008, was a construction article for a long cross slide. While it did not include T-slots per se, the author noted that the increased thickness of his...

    Looking for a good Myford teardown/rebuild write-up

I don't have a specific reference but the British Model Engineers' Workshop (MEW) would be a good place to have a look. A series of forums that you could post. www.model-engineer.co.uk

    mini lathe cross slide gibs

If you can obtain Model Engineers' Workshop magazine (http://www.model-engineer.co.uk/), Dave Fenner authored a multi-part article on many modifications to this lathe. It started in the Holiday (Christmas) 2007 issue and ended in Dec 2008. Specifically, Part 13 of the series, Issue # 145, Dec...

    Milling cutter size

I have a vertical mill (http://www.busybeetools.com/products/MILLING-M%7B47%7DC-MINI-DIGITAL-READOUT-MT3.html). It claims 2.5 inch face mill capacity (I have used only 1.5 inch to date) in the vertical mode. Head can be rotated 90 degrees to create a pseudo-horizontal mill. Obviously, it would...

    power hacksaw

Built this one (Pop Mech,Feb 1976) many years ago. It worked well & could slice 1/8" thick slices from 4" diameter mild steel. Sold it & bought a metal bandsaw. Latter doesn't do it better - just faster. Often wondered why I let it go. Some thoughts: 1. try to obtain a proper power hacksaw...

4 Jaw Chuck for Mini Lathe

I chose http://littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=1697&category=566826475 (4 inch independent with adapter plate for mini-lathe). The company also has 5 inch and adapter plates. I considered the 5 inch but felt it would be limited in use due to the jaws striking the ways...

    Compound Rest mounted grinders

Wondering if a die grinder, for eg. http://www.dewalt.com/tools/metalworking-grinders-die-grinders-dw887.aspx would offer suitable bearing runout? I would guess that it would be better than a Dremel based on above comments but would it be good enough?
